Smartphone causes cancer for Italian justice.
Telecom Italia has been ordered to pay compensation to one of its former employees, who suffers from a brain tumor.
The Turin Court of Appeal has ruled. For the Turin Court, the smartphone promotes the appearance of cancer. This is why she confirmed the condemnation of Telecom Italia, pronounced in 2017 by the Ivrée court, reveals Il Messaggero. The Italian operator will have to compensate Roberto Romeo, a former employee, who suffers from a brain tumor after working for fifteen years with a cell phone glued to his ear.
"You only have to use your mobile phone thirty minutes a day for eight years to be in danger," according to the former employee’s lawyers, interviewed in the Italian newspaper.
This verdict goes against the conclusions made last August by the Italian Health Institute, which claimed that it was impossible to link the use of a smartphone to the appearance of cancer: no scientific evidence could not allow to affirm it for the moment. The Turin Court of Appeal, for its part, said that there were, however, "solid grounds for asserting a causal role between the exposure of the person using the radio frequencies of a mobile telephone and the illness which appeared".
